The City of Sugar Hill is bringing back the Sugar Rush Festival on Saturday, Oct. 17, featuring a 5K race, art contest, free concert and many more festival activities.
The event will kick off with the Sugar Rush 5K, which is open to all ages and a qualifying race for the Peachtree Road race. The race will begin at 8 a.m. on Temple Hill Drive across from the amphitheater. Pre-registration is $20 and registration on the day of the event is $25.
“Come on out and run, jog, walk, roll, or whatever you do to get involved in your downtown Sugar Hill,” Mayor Steve Edwards said in a statement.
Following the 5K, festivities will begin at 11 a.m. Visitors at the festival can expect art and food vendors, a car show, a Preservation Society Oral Stories and Artifacts Display, a juried art show and many more activities taking place in front of City Hall. The art show awards ceremony will be held at 3 p.m.
Children can get their faces painted, play on inflatables and carnival rides and see the monster mural, and street performers will be entertaining audiences throughout the day.
After the activities end at 4 p.m., attendees can head over to the Bowl, which opens for seating at 5 p.m., for a free concert.
At 5:30 p.m., opening acts will begin with local performers Pilot, Presley Sullivan and the Gasoline Brothers taking the stage before this year’s main act, two-time Grammy winner Travis Tritt.
The nationally recognized country star and Grand Ole Opry member has several platinum albums and hit singles, including “Can I Trust You With My Heart” and “Here’s a Quarter.” Tritt also operates his own music publishing company called Post Oak.
“It’s so exciting to have the best acts playing in the best music venue,” Councilman Curtis Northrup said in a statement. “A lot of this talent is from right here in Sugar Hill! I’m really looking forward to it.”
During the concert, the city of Sugar Hill will attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the largest ice cream party. A free portion of ice cream will be handed out to concertgoers at 8 p.m., and Tritt will take the stage to lead a countdown to the first bite. According to Megan Carnell, Sugar Hill’s Events and Marketing Coordinator, the city needs 1,011 participants to break the record.
General admission to the concert is free and no ticket is required. Tickets for the Tannery Row Party Deck, featuring private access to food vendors and a bartender on the upper level of the parking deck overlooking the Bowl, are still available for $25.
