Travis Tritt proves he's still got it as he kicks off Friday's CMA Music Festival concert

Travis Tritt - Real Country

Travis Tritt opened the CMA Music Festival’s Friday night show at LP Field with “Put Some Drive in Your Country,” a song that once served as a statement of purpose: Tritt wanted his 1990s listeners to know he intended to infuse country music with rock-steady rhythms.

These days, Tritt’s songs still sounds formidable, and his voice still ranks among the genre’s most powerful and assertive, but the song’s sentiment isn’t particularly provocative at a time when country radio features country songs with rock drive and hip hop flow.
With a band that included Mike Daly, playing a fluid and aggressive Dobro solo on “Modern Day Bonnie & Clyde,” Tritt ripped through a well-received set at the big stadium.
“This has really become an anthem for me,” he said, introducing “It’s a Great Day To Be Alive,” the Darrell Scott-penned anthem of domestic normalcy.
Tritt provided a rousing opening for Friday night’s stadium show, wailing through a rousing version of the Jerry Chesnutt-written,1992 hit “T-R-O-U-B-L-E.”
